Liverpool take on Bayern Munich in the second leg of their Champions League clash at the Allianz Arena tonight – but there’ll be no Fabinho from the start for the Reds.

Jurgen Klopp has made a bold call by going with James Milner, Gini Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson in central midfield.

Fabinho has been in excellent form in recent weeks and is exclusion from the starting XI is somewhat surprising.

With so much on the line, Klopp has certainly taken a huge gamble.

Fabinho omission a surprise

The Brazilian took his time to get into the swing of things at Anfield.

He was gradually phased into the side and in recent weeks he has truly become one of Liverpool most important players in the team.

His comfort in possession and defensive discipline have been vital for the more attacking players to go forth and express themselves.

Given Bayern’s potent attack, Fabinho’s absence could really harm Liverpool’s chances in Bavaria.

The German champions hit VfL Wolfsburg for six last weekend, suggesting they are ready to test Liverpool’s defensive resolve.

In the first leg – which finished 0-0 (BBC Sport) – the former AS Monaco man controlled the game nicely and was highly rated (7.09) by WhoScored.
