These Aston Villa fans do not want free agent Daniel Sturridge

Yesterday saw Liverpool confirm that Daniel Sturridge would be leaving the club this summer. The 26-cap England international is out of contract at Anfield and will not be offered another deal on Merseyside.

It has led to plenty of debate on social media among fans of some clubs who are immediately being linked with a potential swoop on the player.

One of those teams is Aston Villa.

There is currently no news of any interest in Sturridge from Villa Park. However, the face he is a local lad and Aston Villa’s need for a new striker has sparked the rumour mill into life.

However, it would seem unlikely.

Aston Villa are hoping to keep their wage bill to a minimum. Sturridge is likely to command a big weekly salary that the club will be unhappy to meet.

Dean Smith is also likely to favour younger talents who can push forward and improve with the club. Sturridge turns 30 next season and would not fit into that mold.

Then there is his injury record. Sturridge’s struggles to stay fit have been clear in recent times and Aston Villa cannot afford to rely on such a player.
