There's three playmakers who Tottenham really like, but they'll only join if Ndombele leaves - journalist
Alasdair Gold has said on his Youtube channel that unless Tanguy Ndombele leaves it is unlikely that a playmaker will arrive.
Ndombele to go?
Houssem Aouar, Mikkel Damsgaard and Noni Madueke are all said to be players on Tottenham’s radar.
However, it is claimed that unless Ndombele departs Spurs then a new number 10 may not be on their wishlist.
Ndombele appears to have fallen out of favour under Nuno, and is still yet to be seen on the pitch this season.
However, his wages are sizeable and while he is in their squad, it would be a waste to simply not use him.
Ndombele does possess a great deal of talent with the ball at his feet, although his fitness levels have been questioned.
And it seems that Tottenham will only green light a move for another creative player if the Frenchman goes.
He said: “Houssem Aouar, Damsgaard, Madueke – from what I understand with Ndombele still there and Alli playing well, the likelihood of an attacking midfielder coming in is low.
“Spurs like all three of those players I’ve just mentioned, but unless Ndombele was to go out the door, I’m told it’s increasingly unlikely that an attacking midfielder comes in.”
Tottenham’s stance may disappoint some supporters, who were hoping for a last minute flurry of activity.
However, as a club, it makes sense for Spurs to show some reticence towards making another signing.
The last thing Tottenham need to do is completely bloat their squad, and the signing of another playmaker can’t be seen as urgent.
Even if Ndombele was to leave, Spurs still theoretically have Dele Alli, Giovani Lo Celso, Lucas Moura and Bryan Gil who are all capable of playing in the number 10 slot.
Spurs did look as if they needed more creative edge against Wolves at times.
But they have options in their current squad and if Ndombele sticks around, it will up to Nuno to work out a way to best utilise the talented 24-year-old over the remainder of the season.
