Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes is out of this summer’s Olympic Games in Tokyo with a knee injury.

As reported by Jornal do Oeste, the 23-year-old centre-back has withdrawn from the Brazil squad ahead of the 2020 Olympics due to a knee injury.

Gabriel was one of two Arsenal players called up for Brazil for this summer’s competition. Gabriel Martinelli looks set to fly to Asia to compete for the South American nation.

With Arsenal pre-season starting this week, losing a player already to injury will be infuriating to the likes of Mikel Arteta, who signed Gabriel last year from Lille.

Indeed, with the Gunners playing friendlies in Scotland, the USA and England, Gabriel could miss most of pre-season. Moreover, as per the report, the cause of the defender’s knee injury is tendinitis.

And on social media, Arsenal fans were seething that the club have already suffered an injury to a key player before pre-season had even started.

Here’s what some Arsenal supporters had to say on Twitter about Gabriel injury on Twitter…

Indeed, with Gabriel now injured, there is a chance that the likes of William Saliba and Pablo Mari could remain at the club. There have been rumours that the centre-back duo could leave Arsenal this summer on loan.
