Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber was injured in his very first game for the club in a bitter blow for the Gunners this term.
Timber arrived in the summer in a big-money transfer worth around £38m. The Dutchman was very much expected to play like Oleksandr Zinchenko on the opposite side but is now essentially out for the season.
There had been hopes Timber might return before the season ends though.
However, according to journalist Ben Jacobs – speaking to GiveMeSport – there has been a setback of sorts for Timber.

Jurrien Timber suffers potential injury setback
Speaking to GiveMeSport, journalist Jacobs outlined why he feels Timber may have suffered a small injury knockback.
“Yes, it’s a fluid situation for sure. Obviously, it was an ACL injury just after one competitive game for Arsenal. This is really unfortunate, because he’s a player that arrived with a big reputation and when he is fit, he’s going to be very important for Arsenal,” Jacobs said.
“I think that originally, sources had indicated that early April would be a kind of best-case scenario, and it does appear that there’s been a setback of sorts, which will then delay that into the summer. That certainly puts any Euro participation in doubt, and obviously, even if the player’s fit, he won’t have played football for the best part of a year. So there’s fit and there’s match fit, and it would probably be quite risky to take Timber to the Euros without any significant competitive football regardless.”
Plans in place anyway
Mikel Arteta will no doubt have planned for this anyway but it does seem like we won’t be seeing Jurrien Timber again this season.
It’s a real shame for the Gunners, who thought they’d pulled off a huge masterstroke in beating teams to the signing of Timber in the summer.
The other shame is that in the small sample size we saw of him, the Dutchman actually looked the real deal.
Regardless, Arteta will have known that his season needed to continue without Timber in tow. So far, it’s gone well enough for the Gunners.
However, it does beg the question of just what might have been for the Gunners had Timber been fit for the full season.
