Liverpool’s future is starting to look a lot clearer now.
Things are really starting to come together for the Reds.
Michael Edwards is back at the club in a senior role, while Richard Hughes is set to join as the new Sporting Director.
Liverpool have the building blocks in place to move into this new era, and now, all they need is a new manager.
So, who’s going to come in to replace Jurgen Klopp? Well, the frontrunner for the job is reportedly Xabi Alonso, and speaking on the Blood Red Podcast, Paul Gorst has now shared an interesting link between Alonso and Richard Hughes.

The interesting link between Alonso and Richard Hughes
Gorst spoke about how Alonso and Hughes are linked.
“He comes highly recommended from Edwards doesn’t he? They’ve known each other 20 years back to their days together at Portsmouth,
“He’s a huge lover of Italian football and Spanish football, that’s where a lot of his contacts are based within Spanish football we believe. Interestingly, he worked on the deal to get Andoni Iraola to Bournemouth last year and he shares the same agent as a certain Xabi Alonso, is two and two making four there? We will see.”
Xabi Alonso could be more likely to join Liverpool now
There’s been loads of speculation around Alonso’s next step in management, but this appointment of Hughes may just give Liverpool the edge.
Alonso shares an agent with Andoni Iraola, and given that Hughes has worked closely with Iraola over the past year or so, we have to imagine that his relationship with this agent could be quite strong, and that may help the Reds beat the likes of Bayern Munich to the punch.
Alonso’s chances of becoming the next manager of Liverpool may have just improved.
This is certainly an interesting situation to keep an eye on.
