Newcastle appear to be closing in on another signing.

The Magpies are past their PSR scare and can now focus on bringing players into St James’ Park as they look to return to Europe this season.

Eddie Howe is thought to be keen on signing another centre-back this summer after the addition of Lloyd Kelly from Bournemouth.

With that said, it has just come to light, that they’re closing in on the signing of a highly-rated defender on the continent.

Newcastle close to signing Malick Thiaw

Newcastle United have been heavily linked to AC Milan centre-back Malick Thiaw in recent weeks and it now seems as though a deal is close.

That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who claim Thiaw is now destined to join the Tynesiders this summer.

The 22-year-old is valued at around £33m and Milan are expecting a new offer from Newcastle in the coming days.

Milan are about to sign Strahinja Pavlovic as Thiaw’s replacement, so that’s set to free up his departure.

Malick Thiaw labelled one of the ‘greatest talents in Europe’

Should Newcastle land Thiaw’s signature, it’d be regarded as a real coup.

The 2001-born has been labelled as one of the ‘greatest talents in Europe’, as per Bild, so evidently he has the potential to become a top defender in the Premier League and for the German national team.

Thiaw has attracted interest from Real Madrid and Bayern Munich previously, which amplifies how highly thought of he is.

In other news, Fabrizio Romano shares what he’s now heard about Liverpool signing Anthony Gordon from Newcastle.
