Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard has now shared with the BBC what Tyrone Mings did in the dressing room after his mistake yesterday.

Villa fell to a 2-0 defeat against Chelsea yesterday but put in a spirited display, particularly in the first-half.

Gerrard’s men had several chances to get themselves back on level terms but the Blues goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga was brilliant between the sticks.

Yet, Villa gave Chelsea the lead inside five minutes as Mings completely mistimed a defensive header. The ball fell kindly to Mason Mount, who finished calmly.

But Gerrard has revealed that he was delighted by Mings’ reaction both on and off the pitch.

Gerrard shares what Mings did after mistake

“To be fair to Tyrone, I’ve been in dressing rooms where people make mistakes and don’t put their hand up and take responsibility for them,” Gerrard told the BBC

“Tyrone’s done that and I’ve told him there was no need because his reaction was superb from there and his form’s improved dramatically in my opinion. He’s been one of our strongest performers.

“Outside of that mistake, I thought he was good again today. And the team’s reaction from going a goal down was positive and strong. So as a manager, that’s all you can ask for.”

Chelsea eventually secured all three points after a superb free-kick from Mount as he bagged a brace at Villa Park.

Emiliano Martinez’s positioning was slightly questionable for the goal but the Blues midfielder struck the ball brilliantly.

Gerrard will be disappointed to have not taken anything from the game, especially after being the better side in the first-half.

Two mistakes proved costly for Villa in the end and their improved run of form came to an end yesterday.

Mings has come under a lot of scrutiny over the past year after dips in form and being stripped of the Villa captaincy. But it seems that Gerrard is happy with the centre-back, despite his error in yesterday’s game.
