Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur are just two of the clubs reportedly eyeing Weston McKennie.

Spurs have been linked with the Juventus ace for a long time and apparently remain keen on him.

However, the Villans have reportedly joined the race to sign the United States midfielder.

Gianluca Di Marzio recently claimed on Twitter that Villa are “interested” in snapping McKennie up this month.

The 24-year-old hasn’t exactly been struggling for game time at Juve this season.

However, his future at the Italian club remains uncertain.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on McKennie’s situation, amid links with the likes of Villa and Spurs.

‘Weston McKennie could be one of the players to leave (Juventus),” he said House of Champions: A Daily CBS Soccer Podcast.

“There are conversations ongoing with Bournemouth. Also with Aston Villa, there was a call a few days ago to explore the potential conditions of a deal.

“The value of McKennie… I think would be around 17-18m euros (£15-16m). But as always, in the January market the price could be different in a few weeks.

“This is why English clubs are waiting on the situation of Weston McKennie. and for Juventus, they could be open to let him go if they receive this kind of proposal.

“At the moment it’s just calls with English clubs (instead of concrete bids).

“For Mckennie there is a good chance to leave in January. We still can’t say where, but it’s an open situation.”

‘A superstar’

A few weeks ago, Alasdair Gold spoke of how much Tottenham director of football Fabio Paratici likes McKennie.

“You’ll have heard me say this way back in videos a year ago,” he told his YouTube channel.

“Fabio Paratici adores Weston McKennie.

“He brought him to Juventus from Schalke. Honestly, he thinks he’s a superstar.”

However, Tottenham need to watch out as the likes of Villa and Bournemouth are now in pursuit of the ‘extraordinary’ talent.

American legend Alexi Lalas, who has watched a lot of the midfielder over the years, lauded his compatriot in 2020.

He said in an interview with Tuttosport: “He (McKennie) could be a new Gattuso, who (ex-Juve boss Andrea Pirlo) played with the original and knows how important it was for the balance of that Milan.

“McKennie has something of Gattuso, but also of Kante and Vidal. As they say here: Beauty and the Beast.

“Beauty and the beast both serve to win. And McKennie, as well as a conqueror of balls, also has excellent skills in the construction of the game and with his head he is always dangerous on inactive balls.”
