Ahead of this fresh new year, there could be a lot of success on the horizon for Mikel Arteta’s always improving Arsenal squad.

Four years into life as manager of the club, Arteta now has a team that is built in his image.

That being said, Arsenal’s project is constantly progressing, taking new directions as Arteta sees fit.

And as we enter 2024, there are three players that Mikel Arteta should consider selling this year.

First up, Emile Smith Rowe – we’ll start with the most difficult one to swallow for Arsenal fans.

The midfielder, adorned in the famous number 10 shirt, simply isn’t getting the chances he needs in order to progress his career at Arsenal.

At one point it seemed as if Emile Smith Rowe would be the poster boy of the club’s future, a star shining as bright as Bukayo Saka.

However, injuries have come at unfortunate times, and Arteta’s project seems to have left the talented youngster behind.

There’s no doubt that every Arsenal fan would love to see Smith Rowe back to his best at the club – but is that going to happen?

Perhaps it’s best to move on with both parties’ interests in mind, especially at an asking price of £60m.

Mikel Arteta needs to address Aaron Ramsdale’s Arsenal future in the New Year

Next up, Aaron Ramsdale – and there’s certain similarities in this situation too.

Ramsdale was replaced with David Raya in the summer, that has become clear.

And given Ramsdale is still only 25-years-old, he desperately needs to be playing football, and Arsenal should be considering his needs.

Although disappointed to lose his place, Ramsdale has remained incredibly professional during this tough period, even if he might be a little frustrated with his Dad.

Either way, there seems little justification to keeping Ramsdale as Arsenal’s number two, he’s simply too good.

Mikel Arteta will have foreseen this situation unfolding at Arsenal, and he’ll likely have a plan for the new year.

It’s also time for a midfield revamp

Last on the list, Thomas Partey.

If it wasn’t for his consistent injury absences, Partey would be nowhere near this list.

At 30-years-old, Partey should be lending his experience and rich qualities to this Arsenal squad, dovetailing with the likes of Declan Rice.

However, some Arsenal fans would be forgiven for thinking that he had already left.

It will never sit well selling a player of genuine world-class quality, but he has proved time and time again that he can’t avoid injury.

With the three names mentioned, Mikel Arteta will undoubtedly be losing quality from his Arsenal squad in the new year.

However, looking back to the impressive few months Arsenal have had, and none of these three have played a significant role.

Injuries are a big influence of course, but this demonstrates that each player can be coped without.

And for the first two on the list, a move would probably benefit their career.
