Reported Liverpool target, Ibrahima Konate, has rejected claims that he’s due to sign for the Reds, insisting he has heard nothing yet.
The Athletic claimed just a few weeks ago that Konate was close to completing a move to Anfield from RB Leipzig. It was said to be for a fee in the region of £34m, with terms all but agreed for the defender to join Liverpool.

However, speaking to Bild, Konate has insisted that his focus is on Leipzig for now and that no contact has been made with the Reds.
“There are often rumours in football and many believe them immediately. I or my agents did not get a call from Liverpool. I also have big goals with RB Leipzig,” Konate said.
“These are currently the best possible result in the Bundesliga, reaching the cup final and [winning] the under-21 European Championship with France.”
The comments from Konate are bound to confuse a lot of Liverpool fans. The Athletic are one of, if not the, most reliable source out there when it comes to transfers. So for Konate to play down the rumours, is a bold move.
Reds supporters will be hoping this is just the usual talk of a player on his way out. Otherwise, Klopp might have to find himself another new target.
TBR View: Konate a must sign for Liverpool, hopefully he’s bluffing
Liverpool need a new central defender and Konate’s comments are a bit worrying here for Reds supporters.
Konate is a class act and many regarded him as the missing piece when it was announced he was close to signing. He might just be playing the game for now, not giving anything away.
That’s what Liverpool and Klopp will be hoping, anyway.
