Former Arsenal man Theo Walcott has now been discussing his frustration with one performance against FC Porto last night.

Arsenal ultimately came up short in Portugal, and Mikel Arteta was left frustrated with a display full of control, but no attacking impetus.

Leandro Trossard had one of his quietest displays in recent memories, with only a wayward shot to show for his 74 minutes.

Similarly, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli weren’t able to create anything of note, players diligently marked by their Porto counterparts.

And considering there were several below par showings, with William Saliba even having a rare off night, Theo Walcott found concern with one performance in particular.

Speaking on the ‘Football Daily’ podcast, Walcott was actually left really disappointed with David Raya’s Arsenal display against Porto.

The pundit praised Raya for his recent form, but thought he had now welcomed further questions regarding his readiness for such an occasion.

Theo Walcott thought David Raya proved a real worry for Arsenal against Porto

Although some may disagree, Waclott seemed to think that Raya was at fault for Porto’s late winner.

The pundit questioned Raya’s starting position, saying he has to do better at the highest level.

Walcott said: “I have to question the positioning of the keeper. I think he has done brilliantly at times but I think you can question certain positions.

“Raya has done really well but I just have to question that.

“Especially in the Champions League, this is the highest level we are talking about, and if Arsenal want to be the best I would be disappointed in that.”

Of course, it must be frustrating from Raya’s point of view that he is being questioned once again.

Perhaps Walcott is right and the Arsenal keeper should have stopped Galeno’s late Porto winner, but it’s incredibly hard to tell.

Either way, £30m Raya will be one of several players who will want to show a reaction against Newcastle United on Saturday.

That being said, Peter Schmeichel has actually just shared something odd that Arsenal’s media team did last night.
