Theo Walcott predicts Chelsea vs Liverpool score in blockbuster Premier League fixture

Following consecutive defeats, Arne Slot’s Liverpool side will now face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League.

Liverpool are still top of the table by two points, but Arsenal gained ground on the reigning champions owing to the 2-1 loss against Crystal Palace.

On Chelsea’s part, Enzo Maresca’s side are currently down in sixth with eight points.

Chelsea had started the new season relatively well until two red cards played a big hand in defeats to Manchester United and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Maresca has been criticised for his team selection at times, but it currently seems as if individual errors are causing the biggest headache for the Italian.

Theo Walcott expects Liverpool to beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge

That being said, both Chelsea and Liverpool will be looking to make a statement during Saturday’s evening kick off under the lights in west London.

Chelsea will be without Trevoh Chalobah for the tie owing to suspension, and Liverpool picked up two unfortunate injuries in their defeat to Galatasaray on Tuesday evening.

Slot ruled Alisson Becker out of Saturday’s tie with Chelsea, and it also appears as if Liverpool will be without Hugo Ekitike owing to a hamstring injury.

Speaking before Liverpool picked up those issues on the ‘It’s Called Soccer!’ podcast, Theo Walcott was fairly confident that Slot’s side would win.

Giving his score prediction, he said: “2-0. 2-0 to Liverpool. I’m going 2-0.”

Of course, it would be interesting to see if Walcott would alter that prediction owing to Alisson’s injury – he’s such a key performer for Slot.

Earlier last year, Liverpool considered the idea of Alisson leaving the club, but his continued excellence seemed to eventually quash any chance of the Brazilian moving on.

Liverpool boast an excellent record against Chelsea over the past five years

Liverpool lost to Chelsea on their last visit to Stamford Bridge, a 3-1 defeat when Slot’s side were on the beach somewhat having already won the Premier League title.

But prior to that loss, Liverpool were unbeaten in all competitions against Chelsea since 2021.

Liverpool went on a 10-game unbeaten streak against Chelsea until they lost in west London earlier this year.

On that occasion, a Jarell Quansah own goal added to strikes from Enzo Fernandez and Cole Palmer, rendering Virgil van Dijk’s goal as just a consolation.

And although it seems dramatic to say considering all that Liverpool have achieved under Slot already, a third defeat in a row after losing to Palace and Galatasaray could cause a lot of concern amongst the club’s fan base.

Liverpool haven’t been at their best this season despite topping the table, and Chelsea might just sense an opportunity.
