'Their most in-form player': Darren Bent thinks one Liverpool man has just won a spot in starting XI v City
Darren Bent thinks Liverpool star Diogo Jota will start for Jurgen Klopp’s charges against Manchester City on Sunday.
The pundit was speaking on the Kelly and Wrighty Show, as shown on Optus Sport.
This weekend, Liverpool and City will lock horns in a huge game which could well decide the title race.
Jurgen Klopp’s charges and Pep Guardiola’s side have once again been head and shoulders above the rest of the division.
Liverpool were 14 points behind City in mid-January but are now snapping at their heels with a mere one-point gap.
Indeed, the Reds briefly went top last Saturday, only for the Citizens to leapfrog them by evening.
There has been much debate over which of Liverpool’s strikers will start at the Etihad Stadium.
Sadio Mane and Luis Diaz scored in the Reds’ 3-1 win over Benfica in their Champions League quarter-final first leg.
Mohamed Salah has been incredible for much of the season but he’s been short of form in the past few weeks.
Diogo Jota has scored in the last three matches he’s started for Liverpool.
And while Roberto Firmino may no longer be a guaranteed starter, he’s still an amazing option for Klopp.
“Made himself one of the main front three”
Bent reckons Liverpool’s front line against City will consist of Mane, Jota and Salah.
“I expect Salah to play, I expect Mane to play, and Jota has just thrown his name in the ring,” he said.
“He’s their most in-form player, I think he’s second top goalscorer as well, I think he’ll just go with those three.”
Bent acknowledged Firmino’s role in making the Liverpool front line tick in recent years.
“Firmino was the glue that pulled Mane and Salah together,” he continued.
“But when you look at what Jota has done, he’s made himself one of the main front three.
“I just feel the goal threat that they carry and the way they play together I can just see those three playing together.”
