The transition to the Premier League is never easy as one might expect, and perhaps no new signing has struggled to adapt more this season, than Tottenham summer signing Vincent Janssen.

Janssen, signed for £17 million from AZ Alkmaar, has experienced a torrid start to life in England, scoring just a single Premier League goal in 15 appearances. Compare this to the 27 goals he scored in 34 games in Holland last season, and it is clear to see he is severely under-performing.

Worryingly for Tottenham fans, following his disappointing cameo against Aston Villa in the FA Cup on Sunday – in which he failed to hit the back of the net again – the 22-year-old has now registered a total of 33 shots without scoring (excluding penalties) in all competitions, which is more than any other Premier League striker.

This statistic even sees him ahead of Simone Zaza (23 attempts at goal), of rivals West Ham, who will undoubtedly go down as one of the greatest flops in Premier League history. Meanwhile, Sunderland’s Duncan Watmore (19) and Swansea’s Modou Barrow (16) sit third and fourth in the rankings.

Spurs fans will be hoping their £17 million signing can overturn his miserable run of form, but memories of Roberto Soldado’s time at the Lane will live fresh in the memory. The recent displays of Harry Kane will see Janssen reside on the bench for the next few weeks, at least, but it is imperative he starts taking his chances, whenever they may fall.
