Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Noni Madueke from Chelsea.
The Gunners have had an interest in the English winger for a long time now, and he was on Andrea Berta’s wish list as he explored options to strengthen the club’s attack.
After a lot of speculation, it was revealed on Thursday night that Arsenal and Chelsea have agreed a deal for the transfer of Madueke this summer.
However, the 23-year-old is not on his way to the Emirates just yet.
Why Chelsea have not given Noni Madueke permission to undergo Arsenal medical
Noni Madueke has been at Chelsea for two-and-a-half years.
The Englishman hasn’t been a superstar for them, but he hasn’t been a bad player either. He has produced a few great moments and performed very well last season.
The Blues, however, have many options out wide, so they are not wrong to cash in on Madueke after Arsenal came in with a £52 million offer.
That is why a deal has been agreed, but Chelsea have not allowed Madueke to travel for his medical just yet for a ‘weird’ reason.
The West Londoners want Madueke to play in their Club World Cup final against Paris Saint-Germain despite already agreeing to sell him.
That’s according to talkSPORT’s Jack Cunningham, who said on the Sports Bar on Thursday night: “We’ve got Madueke going to Arsenal from Chelsea, £52 million deal looks to be agreed, he has already agreed personal terms as well.
“What’s weird about this is that he might still play the Club World Cup final. He might still be involved in that because Chelsea have not given permission for him to have his medical yet.
“I do get it because Maresca probably wants everyone available for the game against PSG. He had a part to play (in the semi-final), didn’t he? So I do get it.
“But I would be surprised if Arsenal don’t try and push it through early because if he picks up an injury or something…”
Arsenal should not allow Noni Madueke to play the Club World Cup final
Chelsea are not wrong to want Madueke to be available for their Club World Cup final.
The Blues will take on PSG, who are the best side in the world right now. Enzo Maresca needs all the help he can get, and we’re sure Madueke would like the opportunity to win another trophy too.
However, it would be silly of Arsenal to allow this.
A deal has been agreed to sign Madueke — the last thing they need is for the winger to suffer an injury by playing in the Club World Cup final.
Stopping Madueke from playing in the final would be a harsh move, but it is still the right thing to do.
