One of the more heart-warming football stories over the weekend revolved around a young Leeds United fan writing to Brighton and Hove Albion regarding the possible sale of Ben White.

Five-year-old Dan Auton offered £15.07 from his piggy-bank to The Seagulls to sign the centre-back who has been a revelation on loan at Elland Road this season.

The Premier League side responded in kindness and Andrea Radrizzani even suggested on Twitter that he would be adding to that £15.07 to try and secure a deal at a later date.

It was all very touching, especially in the current testing climate.

So sorry to mess on your Christmas Tree here but in Brighton’s lovely response, there was a very real message. Ben White is not for sale.

“We have given your kind offer the serious consideration it deserves but I know our head coach, Graham Potter, and our technical director, Dan Ashworth, both consider Ben to be a very important part of our future plans so I’m afraid we are unable to sell Ben to Leeds United at this time.”

Leeds United will undoubtedly want to keep White at Elland Road in the long-term after his exceptional form this season. When it comes to naming the best players in the Championship this campaign, White is up there as a contender.

White is reportedly (The Sun) valued at £25 million by Brighton but the club clearly want to give him a chance in the first-team next season. On top of that, the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Wolves have all had their names linked with a move for the centre-back in recent times.

So whilst it was a lovely story that has lifted spirits in a dark time, the message to take away for Leeds United fans is that Ben White is not for sale.
