Sander Berge is on course to reach the top of the Premier League, according to an ex-coach of his. The Sheffield United midfielder is hitting new levels.

There’s little doubt that Sheffield United pulled off a coup when they signed Sander Berge in January. The Norwegian is a very highly-regarded young player but the Blades got there before anyone with a £22m deal.

And as he closes in on a year in the Premier League, an ex-coach of his has grand things to say. He believes that Berge is on course for the very top of the league.

Kjetil Rekdal signed a 17-year-old Berge for Valerenga back in 2015. 18 months and 36 games later, the player was off to Genk in Belgium but it was Rekdal who saw his potential in top-flight football.

“He’s ambitious and he is satisfied, he knows he’s playing in the best league in the world,” he told Yorkshire Live. “It’s a great league for Sander. There are no clubs abroad who can match that.

“He has the ability to play for the very best in the Premier League, but he’s not ready for that just now. He needs to take another step first and gain more experience, being dominant for a longer time.”

Berge surely will reach the very top of the Premier League, if that’s what he wants. He’s a versatile and incredibly talented midfielder who at just 22 has plenty of experience under his belt.

From Sheffield United’s perspective, it’ll be about how long they can keep the player. He’s got just under four years left on his contract, taking him to 26, and he could well be worth an absolute fortune by then.

Right now, though, the Blades will want to develop him and build their team around him. They’ve got a very special player in their ranks and no matter what, it only means good things for them down the road.
