- Exclusive with Graeme Bailey
Three years on from Ralf Rangnick saying it, Manchester United still need open-heart surgery.
The Red Devils sit 13th in the Premier League as things stand, and things have to change.

Despite spending hundreds of millions on new players in recent years, this squad still needs a massive rebuild.
Dan Ashworth was let go by United this week, and there could soon be a different approach to recruitment at Old Trafford.
Manchester United are reportedly looking at a number of potential signings at the moment.
United have reportedly scouted Alvaro Fernandez recently, but any January business may have to be put on hold.
Indeed, United need to raise funds before they can sign anyone this winter, and there are two players who are likely to leave the club next month.

Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof likely to leave Manchester United
Manchester United’s potential to buy in January could depend on their ability to raise funds.
TBR Football confirmed earlier this week that virtually every player at Old Trafford had a potential price on their head.
United are not too well placed in PSR terms and having had to pay for the exit of Dan Ashworth, they are further hampered.
Now led by Jason Wilcox, recruitment-wise, along with Christopher Vivell they are looking at options for January that could help Ruben Amorim.
TBR Football understands that a new left-sider – an attack-minded wing-back is in their thinking, but it remains to be seen if the club will be able to offer Amorim any new options.
There are a number of fringe players who are not deemed part of their long-term future and two of the most sellable in January are seen as Victor Lindelof and Christian Eriksen.
Both players are out-of-contract at the end of the season, and neither player at this point are expecting to be offered fresh terms as talks have not taken place.
Indeed, we understand that Lindelof and Eriksen are the two most likely departures as they are attracting interest from elsewhere, unlike others in United’s squad.
We understand that Lindelof has interest from around Europe including from Portugal, where former club Benfica are keen, whilst there are teams in Italy, Germany and Spain, as well as the Saudi Pro League who are ready to make offers.
We are also told that former Manchester United interim chief Ruud van Nistelrooy has an interest in taking him to the King Power Stadium.
We understand Lindelof could be looked as a potential loan player, as even a slight loan fee and proportion of wages, could be deemed a win for United at this stage. A long term deal for Lindelof could in theory be offered but would be tied to Leicester’s success in staying up, or not.
Leicester already have two loan slots taken, but TBR Football is told that they are looking at sending Odsonne Edouard back to Crystal Palace in the New Year.
Former Inter Milan ace Eriksen for his part has interest from Europe, but also Major League Soccer.
Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof’s stats this season
United may get rid of Eriksen and Lindelof in January, and it’s not hard to understand why.
Indeed, these two don’t feature much in United’s plans these days, as shown by their stats this season and how little they have played.
| Victor Lindelof this season | Christian Eriksen this season | |
| Games | 7 | 14 |
| Starts | 3 | 11 |
| Minutes | 293 | 883 |
Eriksen was playing regularly under Erik ten Hag, but the midfielder doesn’t suit Ruben Amorim’s style of play and hasn’t featured as much recently.
Meanwhile, Lindelof is way down the pecking order at Old Trafford, and with Leny Yoro back fit and firing, Lindelof’s gametime will be reduced even further.
The January transfer window is just around the corner, and United’s first port of call will be to try to find new homes for both Lindelof and Eriksen.
