Aston Villa manager Dean Smith could well have a welcome headache on his hands, with two players having laid strong claims to be regular starters of late.
Marvelous Nakamba and Douglas Luiz both signed for the club this summer, and both have caught the eye since their arrivals.
Between them, they have 19 appearances in all competitions so far, with the Brazilian having been handed a few more than his teammate. That said, Nakamba has had more minutes on the pitch.
Villa fans have been enjoying watching the pair over the past few months, and it would seem there is very little to separate them.
They have both started the last couple of Premier League matches, but realistically Smith won’t be doing that all too often given John McGinn and captain Jack Grealish are nailed on starters in midfield.
TBR’s view – A huge positive for Smith
The fact that Nakamba and Luiz have both made big impressions since their arrivals is great news for Smith going forwards.
The manager needs competition to be fierce amongst his players in order for the level of performance to be raised.
Right now, Nakamba or Luiz is probably Smith’s biggest headache.
Grealish could potentially move to a wide position to accommodate both, but that would mean Smith axeing one of Anwar El Ghazi or the improving Trezeguet, who bagged his first of the season against Liverpool.
