With the calendar year drawing to a close, it’s time to reflect on a sensational 2019 for Liverpool and they are in perfect shape to get even stronger in 2020.

The Reds went into the year top of the Premier League table and their form during the last 12 months has been exceptional.

Jurgen Klopp’s team finished the 2019/20 campaign with a staggering 97 points in the league, which was agonisingly one point short of champions Manchester City.

But the Merseyside giants did earn a sixth European crown by winning the Champions League final against Tottenham in June.

They have remarkably managed to reset over the summer and have finished the year in even stronger form.

Liverpool look strong favourites for the title as they runaway at the top of the table, as well as setting up a last-16 Champions League tie with Atletico Madrid.

There are so many players at Anfield that have the right to be considered among the very best in their position in world football, which is why picking a top three of the year is difficult.

Van Dik has been a monster in defence for Liverpool during 2019 and most people now consider him to be the best defender in the world.

The Holland international has consistency turned in top-class displays to bail his teammates out of trouble and he’s such a positive figure on everyone else around him.

He looks a man against boys at times when defending against Premier League attackers and he only missed out on the Ballon d’Or 2019 award to Barcelona’s Lionel Messi.

The 28-year-old is perhaps the one player that Klopp’s side can’t live without and he’s catapulted to a new level over the year.

Liverpool’s ‘Egyptian King’ Salah has continued his stunning form for the club during 2019, as he managed 11 goals during the second half of last season.

The attacker’s form has been lethal this campaign too with 13 goals across all competitions so far and he’s pulled of some outrageous finishes along the way.

He’s proved that the last couple of years in a Liverpool shirt is no fluke and aged 27 still has the world at his feet moving into next year.

Salah scored an early penalty in the Champions League final triumph over Spurs and is the man for the big occasions.

Mane has arguably been the pick of the bunch in the Liverpool squad during 2019 and the amount of times he’s dragged his team over the line to three points is

The 27-year-old is the one player in the Reds squad that has perhaps gone up another gear this year and deserves to be recognised alongside the best in the world.

He cost Liverpool £34million (BBC) back in 2016 from Southampton and he’s rapid that transfer fee so many times over already.
