A number of Aston Villa fans have been raving about Douglas Luiz’s display for Brazil in their 5-0 thrashing of Bolivia on Friday.
The 22-year-old was named in the Selecao starting XI by head coach Tite for their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign opener in Sao Paulo.
While Luiz’s inclusion in the starting line-up was somewhat of a surprise given he hadn’t played much for Brazil beforehand, the Villa ace more than justified his selection with a dominant display in midfield.

Playing alongside Philippe Coutinho and Casemiro in a midfield three, Luiz helped maintain the tempo of the game, completing 88 passes and making 10 recoveries.
The Villans ace, who joined from Manchester City for £15million in July 2019, may have only picked up one Brazil cap prior to last night, but he’s surely in line for many more starts.
Here is what some Villa fans said on social media:
Brazil opened the scoring through Marquinhos before Roberto Firmino netted twice, while in the second half, Jose Maria Carrasco’s own goal and Philippe Coutinho made it five.
The result takes Brazil to the top of the South American qualifying group after just one game, ahead of Colombia, Uruguay and Argentina, who won their respective games by smaller margins.
