The statistics that reflect Harry Kane’s best ever season for Tottenham

When Harry Kane scored a hat-trick for Tottenham against Stoke on Sunday, the reaction didn’t quite match the feat that the Englishman had just achieved. The Spurs striker’s three goals on Sunday sent him level with Romelu Lukaku as the Premier League’s top scorer.

Kane has recently spoken about his form, saying, “Yes I think so. I feel fresh, I feel sharp, I feel in good shape,” when asked if he was in the best form of his career.

The 23-year-old is certainly confident, but is he right when he says this is his best season yet?

So far this term, Kane has scored 17 goals and is the joint top scorer in the league. The Englishman has played 21 games, missing five matches during September and October due to an injury. He has scored in back to back games three times this season and is an integral part of Spurs’ attack.

The signing of Vincent Janssen last summer was to push Kane to a higher level than last season, where he scored 25 times in 38 games, but the Dutch international has failed to find any form in England. Meanwhile, Kane has maintained a high-performance level, despite a distinct lack of competition.

With a shot accuracy of 62% and a pass completion of 72%, Kane is both finishing moves, finding the target most of the time, and playing a part in the build-up. The Englishman has formed strong partnerships with many key figures in Tottenham’s side and this shows on the pitch.

His partnership with Dele Alli continues to impress. However, this season Kane has also improved individually. His hold-up play has improved further and the increase in fouls suffered, from 57% to 69%, shows that he is forcing his opponents into a mistake high up the field for Spurs.

With 12 games to go, Tottenham will be looking to secure Champions League football, and Kane will be their main hope in achieving it. The Englishman looks set to beat his goals tally of 25 from last season. However, he does need to start creating more if he’s to make wholesale improvements from last year.

Kane created 44 chances last season and has only 29 to his name this season, although, he does have more assists than last term season. He only managed one in the previous campaign and already has four this time round.

If Kane continues his form, Tottenham should qualify for next year’s Champions League group stage, while the 23-year-old Spurs academy graduate may just seal the Golden Boot for himself. Something that will surely confirm this has been his best season yet.
