Richarlison is in red hot form for Tottenham right now.
The Brazilian seems to score every single time he steps onto the pitch right now, and, as you can imagine, Spurs fans are buzzing with how well he is doing.
However, as always, some are keen to rain on Richarlison’s parade, and speaking on ESPN, Steve Nicol has attempted to do just that.
The pundit says that Richarlison’s recent run of form reminds him of Marcus Rashford’s last year, claiming that his is nothing more than a purple patch and a reversion to the mean is inevitable in the near future.

Richarlison is like Marcus Rashford
Nicol shared his verdict on the striker.
“This is absolute cherry picking. I told you last year when Rashford was doing the same thing that it wouldn’t happen again this year. He hadn’t done it for three years, but because he had a purple patch, which is what this guy is doing, Richarlison, he’s having a purple patch, look at the rest of his time in the Premier League, he’s never scored that amount of goals in that amount of games. He’s done well, you have to give him praise, but let’s see you doing it for a long period of time,” Nicol said.
Have to agree
Richarlison is playing brilliantly at the moment, there’s no doubt about that, but we do have to agree with what Nicol is saying here.
This is a purple patch, and a dip will be just around the corner.
Richarlison has never been a 20-goal-a-season striker, he’s not suddenly going to start scoring a goal per game between now and the end of the season.
These purple patches are good, and they can last a long time, but, ultimately, Richarlison has been a 10/15 goal-a-season striker for most of his career, and that’s where he will likely level out at some point.
Richarlison has improved massively, but we can’t see this level of performance being sustainable in the long-term, although, we’d be more than happy to see Richarlison prove us wrong.
