The real reason Arsenal didn’t sign Leroy Sane this summer

Arsenal signed Raheem Sterling on loan from Chelsea on deadline day, but before they signed Sterling, they looked at a number of other wingers.

Arsenal were in the market for a new wide player all summer long, and one player who was strongly linked at one point was Leroy Sane.

Sane was someone Arsenal were very keen on, but, for some reason, nothing came of those links.

Speaking on his Patreon, Arsenal insider, Team News and Ticks, has been discussing Arsenal’s interest in Sane this summer and why a deal didn’t happen.

Why Arsenal didn’t sign Leroy Sane

The reporter says that Arsenal were indeed interested in Sane.

However, a deal was scuppered because Bayern Munich failed in their pursuit of both Xavi Simons and Desire Doue who were lined up as potential replacements.

“So again, I get loads of stick for this. It was said that we might be signing a certain international, and then I was told it had legs and we are chasing a German international. Not that it’s definitely going to happen,” Team News and Ticks said.

“I later found out it was Sane and we were talking to him, but we couldn’t agree a deal with Bayern because they missed out on two key targets, Xavi Simons and Doue. They wanted both, but they got neither. It shows at the end of the window, they didn’t even get Coman out.”

Raheem Sterling a great plan B

Arsenal didn’t manage to sign Leroy Sane this summer, but Raheem Sterling might just be the next best thing.

Indeed, both players are very similar in terms of their styles of play, and they’d both be great fits for this Arsenal system.

Sane and Sterling both worked with Mikel Arteta during his time at Manchester City, and, for that reason, they’d be great fits for this Arsenal side.

Arsenal didn’t manage to get Sane, but they still managed to strengthen in the wide areas this summer.
