'The real dilemma': Jamie Carragher shares whether he thinks Bukayo Saka should start for England vs Senegal

Jamie Carragher thinks Gareth Southgate should keep Bukayo Saka on the bench for England’s clash with Senegal on Sunday.

The Arsenal talisman was benched for England’s 3-0 win over Wales last night, which saw them qualify through the group as leaders.

It remains to be seen if that proves to be a case of being rested or dropped as Southgate has a huge call to make over his weekend team now.

Every England winger, apart from James Maddison, who is yet to play a single minute, has scored at this World Cup and what a selection headache that creates.

Carragher on whether he would start Saka on Sunday

In the Telegraph, Carragher wrote: “I would stick with the same starting line-up.

“When Kyle Walker is fit, he starts. And it is important he gets more minutes in case England progress, building up his fitness.

“Jordan Henderson adds more solidity in midfield, which is important now we are in the knockout stage. The real dilemma is in the wide attacking areas.

“Raheem Sterling and Bukayo Saka have done nothing wrong, but the impact of Marcus Rashford – three goals in the tournament – cannot be ignored. And I have always wanted Phil Foden in the team.”

In truth, England’s forward options either side of Harry Kane are all playing so well that whoever Southgate picks is capable of getting the job done.

Foden and Rashford look like must-picks now, but nobody was talking about dropping Saka or Raheem Sterling after that 6-2 win over Iran.

Jack Grealish has come on in every game and scored against Iran, while Maddison is a dangerous weapon England have yet to use, which underlines how strong the competition for places is.
