‘The real deal’: Some Liverpool fans wowed by £65k-a-week man’s Champions League display

A number of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to praise Nathaniel Phillips for his impressive performance in last night’s Champions League encounter.

The Reds had a mountain to climb in their quarter-final second leg at Anfield after losing 3-1 to Real Madrid in the first leg.

Liverpool were unable to overturn the deficit, playing out a goalless draw in a game which saw them miss several gilt-edged chances.

However, one positive for the Reds going forward came in the shape of Phillips putting in another superb display at the back.

The 24-year-old began the season as a fringe player but has become a key member of Klopp’s first team, shining in the absence of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.

And on Wednesday night, he was great once again – bar one slip-up against Karim Benzema, he was assured, confident, and strong in the air once again.
