‘The pressure’…Jermaine Beckford claims £25m Tottenham player hasn’t been as good since Harry Kane left

Tottenham might be doing really well under Ange Postecoglou but Jermaine Beckford has suggested some have struggled to adapt to Harry Kane leaving.

As we know, Kane moved to Bayern Munich in the summer and despite scoring a hatful of goals in Germany, he could yet again end the season trophyless.

As for Tottenham, they have adapted nicely under new manager Ange Postecoglou’s watch. Their attacking play has changed – some might say for the better – and the likes of Heung-Min Son and Richarlison have enjoyed good seasons.

However, speaking on Optus Sport’s Team Talks show, Jermaine Beckford has suggested that Dejan Kulusevski has actually struggled a touch since Kane left.

Dejan Kulusevski not quite as good at Tottenham since Harry Kane left

Speaking about the Swedish winger, Beckford suggested that while he likes the £25m man, he believes Kane’s departure weighed on him a tad.

“I quite like him. We were just having a chat though and we’re not quite as sure the influence he’s having this season is as remarkable as it was last season. I think possibly because of the pressure, the added pressure of Harry Kane not being their to shoulder the weight of expectation. It’s been redistributed to everyone else and I think initially it took him some time to come to terms with that.

“But I do think as the season’s gone on and he’s started to believe in himself more, we’re seeing the best of him. It’s difficult when you’ve got a player like Kane who shoulders the burden, you can play with freedom. Now Harry’s not there anymore, he doesn’t have to worry about that pressure where as these lot have got to share that pressure,” Beckford said.

Coming good when it matters

While the goals and assists might not be at the level some Tottenham fans want, Dejan Kulusevski has still had a good season.

He is a reliable player for Ange Postecoglou and that’s shown in the fact he very rarely doesn’t complete the full 90 minutes. Indeed, he’s only been subbed off three times all season in his 24 PL starts.

It’s a decent point made from Beckford here and perhaps ‘Deki’ did struggle initially with Kane going.

But over the season, he’s more than shown he’s a key player at Tottenham and will remain one going into the run-in.
