It is transfer deadline day and Everton will be looking to conclude what has been a productive transfer window for the Premier League club.
The Toffees have completed eye-catching signatures such as Andre Gomes, Moise Kean, Jonas Lossl, Jean-Philippe Gbamin and, last night, World Cup winner Djibril Sidibe.
However, they also lost key midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye whilst talented youngsters Ademola Lookman and Jonjoe Kenny headed to Germany.
So what deals could Everton complete on deadline day?
The big one, of course, is Wilfried Zaha.
As reported by The Telegraph a third bid is expected from Everton for the Crystal Palace winger today. The fee involved is said to be in the region of £70 million whilst Cenk Tosun could also be included in the deal. Everton are also open to adding a second player to the agreement.
As reported by The Guardian, Zaha has handed in a transfer request as he is desperate to complete the move. However, Palace still value him at £100 million, making Everton’s task difficult.
The BBC is reporting that Everton also made a £30 million bid for Arsenal winger Alex Iwobi yesterday. A second bid is believed to be expected although the Gunners will want more than £40 million for a deal to be done.
Everton are also still in the hunt for another centre-back. As reported by Sky Sports, a loan bid for Chris Smalling was rejected by Manchester United yesterday. The Daily Mail previously reported that Everton would target one of Smalling, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo at United, so it remains to be seen if the Toffees move for either of the other two.
Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake is also said to be a target. The Sun claim director of football Marcel Brands is a big fan of the Dutchman. However, a £75 million asking price would make any deal difficult. The same report comments on Fikayo Tomori of Chelsea. Everton could bring in the defender on loan, with last year’s loanee Kurt Zouma seemingly off-limits.
The Sun reported that Everton were interested in a sensational approach for another Chelsea defender in David Luiz, but the Brazilian now appears to be Arsenal-bound.
The Liverpool Echo is reporting that Abdoulaye Doucoure is not likely to join Everton. Everton have had two bids rejected for the player and reportedly do not plan a third. However, other midfield options are still being assessed.
So with Everton keen on Zaha, Iwobi and a centre-back, it seems Everton could be bringing in three new faces today if all goes well. However, with Zaha valued at £100m, Iwobi £40m and Ake £75m, it might be an expensive day at Goodison Park.
