It’s transfer deadline day, and, somehow, Arsenal still haven’t signed a striker.
Arsenal have been looking for a new number nine for a long time now.
Arsenal bid for Ollie Watkins earlier this week, while Arsenal also made an approach for Evan Ferguson before his move to West Ham.
Mathys Tel has been linked to Arsenal too, and with just hours to go in the transfer window, Tel’s situation remains unresolved.
Speaking on All Out Football, John Cross has been discussing Tel’s situation as we head into the final hours of the transfer window, and he says that there’s still a 50% chance that the Bayern Munich striker gets a move before the close of play.

Mathys Tel could move on deadline day
Cross shared what he knows about Tel.
The journalist says that Tel has a 50% chance of leaving on deadline day.
Tel was linked to Tottenham earlier this week, while Manchester United are keen on Tel too.
“I’m aware of the irony in asking this the day after, after I’ve gone and smashed five past Manchester City, but it still feels like that maybe they do need another player in that attack up top, an out and out striker. Yes, Mathys Tel hasn’t actually scored all season, but he’s still an out and out striker, more than perhaps what Arsenal have in their ranks at the minute. Can they swoop in last minute?” Cross was asked.
“Will he move? Is this one that’s just going to go right up until that final seconds of the window?”
“Yeah, I think it’s 50-50 really. As at this stage, there’s nothing that’s basically been on Bayern Munich’s radar, if you like, that’s made them think, okay, we’re going to agree a deal here. Don’t forget that Tottenham had a bid accepted for around 50 million pounds, with some add-ons and incentives last week, he didn’t want to then go to Spurs,” Cross said.
“But the fact is that Bayern Munich accepted that deal. The player, I keep hearing, it would prefer a pure loan at this stage. Listen, if a mega club comes in for him and basically presents an amazing opportunity, then I’m sure that will change.”
Mathys Tel stats this season
Tel could make a move on deadline day, but the question is, do Arsenal really need to sign Tel?
As the show’s host said, we’re just 24 hours removed from Arsenal scoring five goals against Manchester City.
The Gunners are the second-highest goalscorers in the Premier League, and they don’t necessarily need a player of Tel’s quality to help them improve.
Of course, Arsenal do need a new prolific number nine, but Tel is far from prolific. In fact, he hasn’t scored a goal all season long.

Arsenal could do with a new striker, but someone like Ollie Watkins would be a much better option than Tel this late in the day.
There’s a chance that Tel makes a move in the final hours of the transfer window, but whether or not Arsenal go for him remains to be seen.
