Fabrizio Romano has moved to allay fears that Tottenham Hotspur could be outbid by Barcelona for Cristian Romero.
The only team
Tottenham have been pushing to sign Romero for well over a week now, but have failed to do a deal with Barcelona.
There were fears that Spurs could be trumped by Barca in the race for the central defender.
However, Romano says that Tottenham are ‘the only team’ leading the race to sign the 23-year-old.
And he also claimed that Fabio Paratici was in discussions with Atalanta overnight to try and seal the deal.
Encouraging
The update looks like great news for Tottenham fans, because the potential signing is one which has created a large amount of excitement.
Romero won Serie A’s defender of the year, and he would be a hugely welcomed addition at Spurs.
Tottenham failed to find a consistent central defensive pairing last term, and the feeling is that Romero would come straight into Nuno’s back-line.
The problem for Tottenham is the fee that would be required to sign the Argentine international.
The Guardian say that Romero is valued at £47 million by Atalanta, which would make him the second most expensive Spurs signing ever, if he was to join.
