‘The only positive’, ‘deserves Champions League’: Some Newcastle fans praise £42k-a-week man’s display

A number of Newcastle United fans have praised Miguel Almiron’s efforts on Monday night as the Magpies fell to yet another disappointing defeat in the Premier League.

Steve Bruce’s beleaguered charges lost 3-0 away at Arsenal as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s brace, either side of Bukayo Saka’s strike, ensured a routine victory for the hosts.

Newcastle, meanwhile, are now without a win in seven Premier League games, and have scored just once in their last seven games in all competitions.

Karl Darlow was the obvious standout for the visitors but, in terms of outfield players, Almiron was the only one who emerged from the game with any credit.

The 26-year-old worked hard throughout the encounter and looked a threat, particularly in the first half.

Almiron weighed in with one effort, made one key pass and completed one dribble, while in terms of defensive work, he made two tackles, one interception and one clearance.

Here is what some Toon fans were saying on social media about the £42,000-a-week man:

Newcastle, now 15th in the table, are next in action on Saturday as they head to Aston Villa for a 8pm kickoff.
