Manchester United need to have a busy January transfer window.
United are in a woeful position heading into January, they sit 13th in the Premier League and relegation is a genuine concern for United.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 12 | 20 | 7 | 3 | 10 | 42 | 30 | 12 | 24 | |
| 13 | 20 | 6 | 5 | 9 | 23 | 28 | -5 | 23 | |
| 14 | 20 | 6 | 5 | 9 | 24 | 39 | -15 | 23 |
Of course, Manchester United aren’t likely to go down, but the fact that those conversations are even happening is a damning indictment on the state of the team right now.
January is here though, and that means help could be on the way.
Speaking on the Ranks FC Podcast, Dean Jones has shared a transfer update on United, and he says that the club want to have a new left-back identified and lined up by the end of this week.

Manchester United want a new left-back lined up
Jones shared an update on United’s transfer plans and their priorities.
According to the journalist, the club want to find a new left-back this week, and while they may not make a signing in that time, they want to get the ball rolling and hone in on one particular target.
“Yeah, let’s see what United end up doing. They want to really find that left back this week, if they can. Not saying they’ll sign him this week, but they want to kind of identify and go after that player that they need,” Jones said.
“Perhaps that’s getting Rashford out the door as soon as possible, getting some of those wages gone is really important, so that opens up the wages to be able to sign someone half decent, because at the moment, they can’t. They need a midfielder. They don’t have much depth in there.”
Manchester United left-back targets analysed
Manchester United desperately need a new left-back, and they have a lot of options on their agenda.
Milos Kerkez has been linked to United recently, while David Raum is on United’s radar too.
Alphonso Davies is a United target as well, and all three of these players would potentially be good fits for Ruben Amorim’s system.
| Milos Kerkez | Alphonso Davies | David Raum | |
| Goals | 1 | 1 | 0 |
| Assists | 3 | 2 | 1 |
| Key passes per game | 1.1 | 1.6 | 2.1 |
| Crosses per game | 0.9 | 0.2 | 1.9 |
| Tackles per game | 1.4 | 1.5 | 1.7 |
| Interceptions per game | 1.2 | 0.6 | 0.3 |
All three players have plenty to offer at both ends of the pitch, but perhaps United’s best option here would be Kerkez.
Not only is the Hungarian Premier League proven, Kerkez has been the biggest attacking threat of these three players this season – something Ruben Amorim values highly, and at the age of just 21, he has plenty of potential too.
Who United ultimately end up with in this position remains to be seen, but by the sounds of it, there could be some concrete movement on this front in the coming days as the Red Devils look to bolster their left flank.
