Gabriel Martinelli capped a fine Arsenal debut with a goal in the pre-season friendly against Colorado Rapids. Arsenal won 3-0 against the American side at the DSG Park in Colorado.
And Martinelli was one of three youngsters on the scoresheet, alongside Bukayo Saka and James Olayinka. Martinelli only joined Arsenal earlier this summer but he is already catching the eye.
The Gunners beat off a number of clubs to land the Brazilian starlet from Ituano. The teenager had already been impressing for Ituano with 10 goals in 34 games despite his young age.
Martinelli’s rise to the top has been impressive and he looks like the next Brazilian wonderkid. The 18-year-old won the 2019 Best Newcomer award and was called up for a training camp with the senior Brazil squad.
Arsenal won the race for the versatile forward, who operates on the wing or as a striker. He was then included for the pre-season tour to the United States and he is already impressing.
61 minutes into the friendly against Colorado, Martinelli latched onto a cross from young defender Dominic Thompson and flicked it into the net. Here are some fans reacting to this performance and goal.
