'The most Everton thing ever': Some Toffees fans fuming over 'ridiculous' news
Everton have parted company with James Rodriguez, news which didn’t go down well with some Toffees fans.
On Wednesday, the Goodison Park outfit announced that Rodriguez had left to join Qatari club Al Rayyan.
Carlo Ancelotti brought the Colombia international to Everton last summer, the two having worked well together in the past.
Rodriguez hit the ground running on Merseyside, claiming three goals and three assists in his opening five Premier League games.
He suffered from a number of injuries last season, but clocked up 26 appearances in all competitions, including 23 in the Premier League.
However, Rodriguez didn’t feature this season under new Everton boss Rafa Benitez.
His last game for the Toffees came in the 1-0 loss to Sheffield United back in May.
Rodriguez was surplus to Benitez’s requirements, so his departure isn’t exactly a surprise.
But the news angered some Everton fans – those sad to see him go and those wondering why they’d signed him in the first place:

Can’t believe how poorly my club is run some days— JG (@gilders1978) September 22, 2021
Best player we’ve had in many years and we let him go. No wonder he was fed up with us, no encouragement from the waiter or the club. We will get everything we deserve— Ade (@Ade_Golf_EFC) September 22, 2021
What a joke that was. Embarrassing— Harry Wallace (@BlueKnight1878) September 22, 2021
Best player by a mile when fully fit, ridiculous how we’ve let him go when the current squad is a shambles after a couple of injuries. Good luck James🔵— Liam (@liamheler) September 22, 2021

What a farse of a deal. So we lose on of our most creative midfielders without replacement until January. Didn’t the manager and Board noticed how thin our bench is already. Very dissatisfied with the way the Club is running its business. Shame on Benitez, Brand, the Board.— SLB (@sanbrown76) September 22, 2021
Another lesson learnt. Stop now with the big statement approach, big names like James, Ancelotti, eto'o, koeman havent worked out. Get players and a manager that wants to be here for EFC not a payday.— lee mitchell (@leemitch57) September 22, 2021
