'The most creative player': Rio Ferdinand thinks Spurs-linked £98k-a-week speedster is 'fantastic'
Reported Spurs transfer target Leonardo Spinazzola is a “fantastic” player who is the “most creative” in the Italy squad, Rio Ferdinand has said.
Spinazzola enjoyed a superb Euro 2020 campaign for the Azzurri, but sadly suffered a tournament-ending injury last week.
The Roma ace suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon in last Friday’s quarter-final win over Belgium, for which he underwent surgery.
According to BBC Sport, Spinazzola faces around six months on the sidelines.
Ferdinand, speaking on Match of the Day, bemoaned the speedster’s injury and lauded his “amazing” efforts over the past month.
“The most creative player for Italy,” said the England icon.
“You see the stats, dribbles and open-play crosses, he’s first in the team.
“He was the outlet. We watched him here. He was fantastic.
“A right-footed player playing on the left. Everything positive. It came through his side.
“He’s going to be a huge, huge miss.”
Given Spinazzola’s lengthy absence, Spurs will probably have to look elsewhere this summer if they are to bolster their full-back ranks.
But who knows, Tottenham could rekindle their interest next year.
The £98,000-a-week ace is a high-calibre player and would bolster the ranks of any top team.
