Heung-Min Son is back to being Tottenham’s star player.
The South Korean had a quiet season last time around, but he’s more than making up for that this term.
Flourishing in his newfound role as a centre-forward, Son has looked every bit a world-class player this term.
However, Spurs very nearly missed out on this brilliance.
Indeed, speaking on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold has now shared the story of how Heung-Min Son almost left Tottenham after his first season at the club.
The journalist says that Son did genuinely have thoughts about leaving Tottenham after his first season in north London, but he was convinced to stay by Mauricio Pochettino at the time.

Son thought about leaving
Gold shared what he knows about Son and how he almost left.
“As for the positives, you have to start with Sonny. That finish, he does so many of those trademark finishes, he’s so good at it. Started the season how everyone hoped he would. He’s the main man in the attack at Spurs, that’s exactly what he needed. Son has stepped up and has become a star,” Gold said.
“He’s a terrific player, Spurs are so lucky to have him, it’s come full circle now. That first year, afterwards he kind of wanted to leave the club, and Pochettino had to convince him to stay, now, all these years on he’s the face of the club.”
Son has become a legend
It’s almost insane to think that Son almost left Tottenham after one year, because since that moment, he’s never looked back.
Son has hit new heights almost every season he’s been at Spurs – barring last year, and now, he has to be considered a true club legend.
Of course, he’s still waiting for that elusive first major trophy for Spurs, but with Ange Postecoglou’s side playing the way they are at the moment, you wouldn’t back against Spurs ending that silverware drought this season.
Spurs are incredibly lucky that Pochettino was able to convince Son to stay all those years ago.
