'The Midas touch': Media stunned by Arsenal 25-year-old's 'terrific' display for his country

Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney delivered a solid display for Scotland in their Nations League win over Ukraine on Wednesday.

The Gunners ace was back in the international fold for the first time in six months.

Tierney suffered a season-ending injury back in March which proved costly for Arsenal and Scotland alike.

The Gunners failed to reach the Champions League, while Steve Clarke’s side lost their World Cup playoff semi-final against Ukraine.

Now, with Tierney back in the fold, the fortunes of both Arsenal and Scotland are on the up.

Against Ukraine on Wednesday night, the 25-year-old played a key role for Scotland’s crucial opener.

His hopeful prod across goal enabled John McGinn to eventually find the back of the net.

The hosts went on to win 3-0 at Hampden Park, and Tierney earned plenty of praise from the Scottish media.

The Scotsman said the Arsenal man has “the Midas touch” when it comes to his nation.

‘The Arsenal defender elevates his country, of that there can be surely no doubt,’ they wrote.

‘Even when he isn’t at his peak conditioning, as he remains working towards following his long-term injury sidelining earlier this year.

‘Good players find a way to make a difference, and Tierney does that on national service.’

‘His usual energetic self’

Meanwhile, the Daily Record gave the Arsenal star an 8 out of 10 for his efforts.

‘Left-back covered the ground and made himself available to take the ball,’ they wrote.

‘Terrific press and pick out to create a chance for Amstrong. Volley touched wide by Trubin.’

And Football Scotland went with 7 out of 10.

‘Asked to go forward as a full-back for the first time in ages under Steve Clarke and he obliged.

‘His usual energetic self and strong in the challenge. Had a great effort saved in second-45.
