Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen believes Harry Kane’s move to a deeper position for Tottenham could help him prolong his stay at the top in English football.
Owen, speaking on Talksport this morning, believes that Kane could well end up being unhappy if results start to change, given he is no longer playing as a direct number nine under Jose Mourinho.

But despite that claim, Owen also believes Kane could see huge benefits from his change in role and backed it to help him in the longer term.
“In many ways, as well, he’s changed his role with the evolution of Tottenham. He’s much more of a No 10 this season and he’s assisting a lot more. Being at the sharp end of that team requires a lot of pace, lots of running, multiple sprints and he’s not so young now,” Owen said.
“He’s going to get into a stage of his career, where we’ve all been, where you start tweaking your game a little bit to manage your body. So, in fact, it might be the making of him that he starts developing that No 10 role and it works even better when you’ve got pace around you.”

Kane tops the Premier League assists chart this season after building up an impressive relationship with Heung-Min Son. However, he’s also still in the goals, having netted nine times himself.
Owen, who knows a bit about having to adapt later in a career, could well be spot on in his assessment here.
Mourinho masterstroke, Kane looks world class – TBR View
Harry Kane has always been one of the top strikers in the game but he’s now looking like one of the very top players in the whole game.
His passing is akin to that of a seasoned number eight or ten, while his finishing is still of the highest order and quality. Kane is proving to everyone just how good he is, and relishing this deeper role at the moment.
