'The latest we are getting': Sky Sports reporter shares exciting Diego Carlos update on air
Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Diego Carlos in the January transfer window.
For a while, the Magpies looked like the sole Premier League side in the running, but now Spurs also appear to be in the race.
The latest Sky Sports report claimed Newcastle were moving closer to a deal for Carlos, but a London-club has matched their £30million bid.
The Daily Mail reported on Thursday afternoon that Spurs have expressed interest in the Sevilla ace.
Now, Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol has provided an exciting update on Carlos as far as his suitors are concerned.
He claims Sevilla are willing to let the Brazilian go after this weekend, and it’s up to him where he goes.
“The latest we are getting on Diego Carlos is that Sevilla want to keep him for their game this weekend [against Celta Vigo],” he said on The Transfer Show (20/1/22, 17:05).
“Up to Carlos where he wants to go”
“But after that game, the expectation is that Sevilla will do a deal and then it’s up to the player where he wants to go.
“They have had an offer from Newcastle and they have been in the driving seat for the past couple of days.
“But there is also another Premier League club from London who have made an offer of around £30m for him.
“It’s then up to Carlos where he wants to go.”
Solhekol claimed that Tottenham have a long-standing interest in Carlos, but didn’t confirm whether Spurs bid for him.
“If you try to work out who this club in London is, my information is that it’s not West Ham,” he added.
“David Ornstein at The Athletic says it’s not Arsenal, so that really leaves Chelsea and Tottenham.
“I’m not in a position to say which club it is, but I know that Spurs have a long interest in the player.”
If either Newcastle or Tottenham can land Carlos, they would have a truly world-class defender at their disposal.
He has made 118 appearances for the Spanish club, has won the Europa League and Olympic gold medal, and has his club within reach of La Liga’s summit.
