'The interest we know is very real': Sky Sports journalist claims Arsenal really want to sign £58m star
Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth has claimed Arsenal have “very real” interest in Dusan Vlahovic.
He’s also confident that the Gunners could do a deal, though he acknowledges it’s likelier in summer.
Arsenal are set for some upheaval in their attacking ranks come the end of the season.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been frozen out at the Emirates. Meanwhile, Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are out of contract in summer.
A month ago, Fabrizio Romano claimed Arsenal are planning to sign an “important” striker this year who’d become their No. 9 for years to come
As one of Europe’s best strikers, Vlahovic is likely to have the biggest clubs scrambling to sign him in 2022.
This season, the 21-year-old has a staggering 19 goals and three assists from 23 Viola games.
Last term, Vlahovic netted 21 times from 37 appearances. Furthermore, the Serbia star has seven goals from 14 appearances for his country.
“One of a number of strikers Arsenal are looking at”
Sheth, speaking on Sky Sports, gave his verdict on Arsenal’s hopes of signing the 6ft 3in star.
“I think Arsenal could do a deal,” he told the Transfer Talk podcast, via the Sky Sports website.
“If you look back to the summer they were the biggest spenders in the Premier League – close to £135m – so they are backing Mikel Arteta.
“I just think now, for them to shop for the elite players it’s going to require them to get into the Champions League.
“This could be the season they could do it – it looks pretty open. This is a big opportunity for the likes of Arsenal and Spurs, and West Ham as well.
“The interest we know is very real. He’s one of a number of strikers Arsenal are looking at. It looks like it could be potentially a difficult deal – not impossible – to do in this transfer window.
“Summer is more likely, particularly from Vlahovic’s side because he would want to assess every single option that he’s got.”
The Sun has recently reported that Fiorentina value Vlahovic – whose contract runs out in 2023 – at £58million.
