Tottenham Hotspur recorded just their fifth win of the season in all competitions on Wednesday night and will be looking to make it back-to-back victories for the second time this campaign – and Spurs have got to start Ryan Sessegnon.
The 19-year-old summer signing made just his second appearance on Wednesday night as Spurs eased past Red Star Belgrade. After a one-minute cameo against Everton, Sessegnon finally had the chance to shine – three months after his move.
But he hit the ground running. The £25million summer signing struck up an instant connection with Danny Rose, showing excellent movement to get free on the left flank before supplying a perfect low cross for Christian Eriksen.
The out-of-form Dane bundled the ball home into the Red Star net to make it 4-0. Now fit, raring to go and showing class despite a lack of match fitness, Sessegnon will already be looking ahead to Saturday’s clash against the Blades.
Mauricio Pochettino is likely to rotate his side once again, but Sessegnon’s record against Chris Wilder’s team has got to see the England youth international start in a bid to win three points at home to the newly-promoted side.
That is because, in the two appearances Sessegnon has made against Sheffield United, he has earned six points during his days at Fulham – and even scored a hat-trick against the Blades as Fulham beat Wilder’s side 5-4 back in November 2017.
Spurs have plenty of options out wide, especially after Giovani Lo Celso scored on his first start for Spurs on Wednesday night. Son Heung-min, Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura are also options for Mauricio Pochettino.
But the Argentine gaffer has got to consider Sessegnon for a start on Saturday, given how good he has been against the Blades in the past – and how he linked up with Spurs left-back Rose on Wednesday night.
