The Hugo Lloris statistic that will frustrate many a Tottenham fan
Hugo Lloris hasn’t had the best of times lately.
The Tottenham Hotspur stopper has come in for a lot of criticism this season.
The Frenchman has made a number of errors for Mauricio Pochettino’s side this term, such as against Barcelona and PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League, which follow the howler he made in the World Cup final against Croatia.
Lloris continues to start most games for Spurs, despite his indifferent form, but Michel Vorm and Paulo Gazzaniga in particular are surely breathing down his neck.
The interesting thing about Lloris though is that, if you take away the high profile errors, he’s actually one the best goalkeepers in Europe.
A frustrating statistic
According to Opta, Lloris has the highest save percentage across the top five European leagues so far this season.
He’s amassed 86.1%, with Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola second with 85.7% and Nice’s Walter Benitez third with 83.7%.
It suggests him as being a more than capable shot stopper and thwarter of chances.
But the main thing with Lloris is the mistakes.
Spurs fans will be hugely frustrated by this statistic because he could easily be one of the best in the world if he just made fewer lapses.
His focus has perhaps wavered in recent times, and he needs to regain that sooner rather than later before the errors become his demise.
