'The first day': Tottenham star admits he was barely running in training before playing vs Liverpool yesterday

Tottenham Hotspur star Dejan Kulusevski has admitted to Football.London he was barely running in training before playing against Liverpool yesterday.

The 22-year-old returned to action in north London after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Kulusevski picked up an injury while on international duty with Sweden back in September, which ruled him out for seven weeks in the end.

The winger played for just over 20 minutes during yesterday’s defeat to Liverpool and set-up Harry Kane within minutes of coming off the bench.

Now, Kulusevski has revealed that he had barely been training in the build-up to yesterday’s match.

The Spurs winger was asked whether he could be in line for a return to the starting line-up on Wednesday against Nottingham Forest.

“I don’t know, we’ll have to speak about this,” he told Football.London

“Today was actually the first day I really ran a lot because yesterday [Saturday] was 20 minutes training and before that I haven’t trained.

“I want to take it easy, I know it’s only two games left, and I want to be fit so I can do this holiday good and train and build myself up.”

Kulusevski impressed from the bench yesterday and Spurs looked more dangerous with him on the pitch.

Ivan Perisic was forced to play alongside Kane and did well considering it’s a new role for him.

The Croatian rattled the woodwork twice in the game but looked far more comfortable after moving to left wing-back.

Conte has been without Richarlison and Kulusevski in recent weeks, so it’s huge boost that the Swede is now ready to be involved again.

The Spurs boss was left short in terms of attacking options yesterday after Heung-Min Son was also ruled out.

Conte will certainly have to ease Kulusevski back into action but he will have time to rebuild his fitness with the World Cup just around the corner.
