TBR Football understand Arsenal are speaking internally about Eberechi Eze, and have an issue over his position.
The Crystal Palace No.10 is firmly on the agenda at the Emirates Stadium after the £64m signing of Viktor Gyokeres was finally completed.
TBR Football are aware that Eze is telling close friends he expects to join Arsenal this summer.
However, the deal could be an expensive one for the Gunners due to his £68m release clause.
Graeme Bailey – Chief Correspondent at TBR Football – has now received an update on the situation involving Arsenal and Eberechi Eze.
Exclusive: Arsenal have discussed where Eberechi Eze would play
Sources close to the situation now state that some inside the Emirates Stadium are unsure about where the England international would actually play under Mikel Arteta.
We understand a number of Arsenal insiders deem Eze to be a natural No.10 – who plays in a central attacking midfield role – a position the Gunners already have Martin Odegaard and Ethan Nwaneri for.
Kai Havertz, Leandro Trossard and Declan Rice can also play in advanced midfield areas.
Bailey says: “I am told that some inside the club are not sure about where he is going to play within the Arsenal system. It is believed that a number see him as a No.10 and if that is the case, do they need that? That is part of the discussion.
“Arsenal are still weighing up their options when it comes to Eze. They like the player a lot and think he would be an excellent signing, but nothing is guaranteed at this point.
“Arsenal are one who have held talks, but Palace were expecting others such as the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Aston Villa, Newcastle and Tottenham to come – as of yet that hasn’t happened but it could. Although, as we know, Eze wants Arsenal, and has told friends that is where he expects to be playing come the end of the window.
“Palace are not going to help anyone get Eze, they want him to stay. If somebody wants him, it is going to be on their terms.”
Eberechi Eze could be an option on the left for Mikel Arteta
If Arsenal feel there is no room for Eze – who Paul Merson wanted instead of Noni Madueke – in a No.10 role under Arteta, it would still be worth signing the man from Greenwich to compete against Gabriel Martinelli and Trossard on the left.
The FA Cup winner can boast 12 goals and six assists in 47 appearances playing on the left of midfield throughout his career, which equates to a goal involvement every 2.6 games on average.
| Position | Games | Goals | Assists |
|---|---|---|---|
| Attacking Midfield | 142 | 35 | 21 |
| Left Midfield | 47 | 12 | 6 |
| Central Midfield | 43 | 9 | 3 |
| Left Winger | 33 | 6 | 6 |
| Right Midfield | 14 | 3 | 1 |
| Striker | 2 | 0 | 0 |
| Right Winger | 2 | 0 | 0 |
Eze has also scored six goals and provided six assists in 33 games playing higher up as more of a left-sided attacker.
However, as you can see, the Londoner struggles on the right flank, amassing just three goals and one assist in 16 appearances throughout his career on this side of the pitch.
