Tottenham Hotspur are on the trail of Mathys Tel heading into the final few days of the transfer window.
Tottenham want to sign Tel before the window closes on Monday, but, in order to do so, they’ll have to get a move on.
Indeed, there are just a few days to run in this transfer window, and Ange Postecoglou’s side need to accelerate their move for Tel.
However, this is a complicated deal.
Bayern Munich would ideally loan Tel out, but Tottenham do need a permanent solution up front.
Speaking on Stretford Post, Ben Jacobs has been speaking about Tel’s situation and the type of deal Spurs are likely to do to sign the attacker.
According to the journalist, Spurs are prepared to buy the Bayern Munich attacker, but the most likely deal here is a loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the season.

The deal Tottenham are likely to do for Mathys Tel
Jacobs shared what he knows about Tel and the deal Spurs may ultimately do for the forward.
According to the journalist, Tottenham are most likely to do a loan with an obligation to buy, with the player’s valuation sitting at around £60m.
“A loan might suit all parties but at the moment you have Tottenham who are prepared to buy. Most likely a loan with an obligation, but possibly a straight purchase. If someone hits the value of £60m, then my gut feeling, speaking to sources in the past 24 hours, says a permanent sale will be favoured which will put Manchester United at more of a disadvantage,” Jacobs said.
Tottenham’s past January loan deals
Tottenham look like they could bring Tel in on an initial loan in this transfer window, and that is a strategy that Spurs have often turned to in these winter windows.
Indeed, Spurs have done a number of January loan deals in recent years, and it’s fair to say they’ve been fairly hit and miss.
| Tottenham January loan deals | Signed from |
| Pedro Porro | Sporting CP |
| Dejan Kulusevski | Juventus |
| Timo Werner | RB Leipzig |
| Gedson Fernandes | Benfica |
| Eidur Gudjohnsen | Monaco |
Dejan Kulusevski is now Tottenahm’s best player, so that deal was a rousing success, while Pedro Porro has become a key player for Spurs since his arrival too.
Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for a few of the players the above list.
Timo Werner has been heavily criticised since his arrival in north London, while Gedson Fernandes was a serious flop.
Going even further back, Eidur Gudjohnsen brought a bit of quality to Tottenham when he arrived on loan, but he was past his prime by that point.
Spurs will be hoping Tel is more of a Kulusevski than a Werner if they do indeed broker a loan deal for the young striker.
