The brilliant thing Chris Rigg did during win over Chelsea that Sunderland fans may have missed

Sunderland’s wild celebrations after Chemsdine Talbi’s late goal against Chelsea involved one Chris Rigg moment that everyone will love.

Talbi praised Sunderland’s team spirit after the game at Stamford Bridge, and while it was his goal that won the day, every Black Cats player had a big role to play in securing the three points.

The win kept up an incredible start to the season for Sunderland, and proved once again that Regis Le Bris’ men are not here to make up the numbers.

Sunderland showed they can compete with the big teams in the Premier League, and it appears we’re looking at a team here who would fight for one another until the end.

Chris Rigg builds Brian Brobbey confidence

While most Sunderland fans were busy celebrating the winning goal in the 93rd minute — and rightly so — they will likely not have seen what happened between Chris Rigg and the man who provided the assist for that winning goal, Brian Brobbey.

Brobbey, who got on the end of a long ball from Lutsharel Geertruida, held up play and then fed the pass to Talbi, notched his first assist of the season.

Despite arriving with a lot of hype as one of Sunderland’s many new signings this summer, Brobbey has found his game time limited to just 72 minutes so far this term, largely due to the great form of Wilson Isidor.

As you can imagine, the Dutchman’s confidence is a little low right now. So, it’s nice to see that Sunderland’s teen star, Rigg, went over to his teammate to celebrate rather than following the rest of the players who celebrated with Talbi in front of the supporters.

The fact that Rigg, just 18-years-old, had the thought to take it upon himself to lift the spirits of Brobbey rather than joining the main group is a wonderful sign of his maturity, and once again signals just how strong the team spirit is at Sunderland.

Regis Le Bris will need Brian Brobbey as the season goes on

Brobbey may still be waiting for a goal, but getting that assist on Saturday will be a massive boost for the young forward.

Plus, given Regis Le Bris’ ambition for Sunderland is to build a squad that can compete on all fronts eventually, it figures that Brobbey will keep getting more and more opportunities in the team.

The minutes will keep coming, the first goal will come, and the confidence should only grow and grow from here. He’s young, hungry, and clearly cares a great deal about his football.

If we know one thing about Le Bris and Sunderland, it’s that hard work and desire will always be rewarded.
