Liverpool have missed out on some remarkable signings over the years.
The Reds have lost out on the likes of Martin Zubimendi, Jude Bellingham and Aurelien Tchouameni.
However, a story has now emerged that is perhaps more painful than any of the above.
Indeed, according to Lequipe, Liverpool were close to signing Kylian Mbappe back in 2022.

Kylian Mbappe had agreement with Liverpool
According to this report, Mbappe agreed personal terms with Liverpool back in the summer of 2022.
Interestingly, Mbappe admitted around this time that he had spoken to Liverpool.
“I talked to Liverpool because it’s the favourite club of my mum, my mum loves Liverpool. I don’t know why, you will have to ask her!” Mbappe said.
“It’s a good club and we met them five years ago. When I was in Monaco I met them. It’s a big club.”
Mbappe has always seemingly had this soft spot for the Reds, and a move very nearly came off.
According to Lequipe, Liverpool and Mbappe had reached an agreement, but, ultimately, the striker decided to stay at PSG in the end.
Liverpool’s agreement with Mbappe did state that he would be allowed to join Real Madrid in the future, so this would likely have been a short and sweet marriage of convenience.

Kylian Mbappe could’ve been incredible for Liverpool
It goes without saying just how good Mbappe would’ve been for Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp always loved pacy attackers who can counter well, and Mbappe may be the best in the world at that particular skill.
In fact, Mbappe has been called ‘the best player in the world’ in the past.
The World Cup winner is certainly one of world football’s premier talents, but now that he’s joined Real Madrid, it’s increasingly unlikely that we will ever see him in the Premier League.
Mbappe to Liverpool would’ve been an incredible transfer, but sadly, this one never came to fruition.
