‘The best one’: Rio Ferdinand raves about Arsenal talent Gabriel Martinelli

Rio Ferdinand has suggested on his YouTube channel FIVE that Gabriel Martinelli is the pick of the bunch as far as Arsenal’s youngsters are concerned.

The former Premier League defender has been discussing Arsenal’s fortunes after the club enjoyed a revival in fortunes.

Mikel Arteta has overseen three straight wins with the Gunners sitting far more comfortably in eleventh place.

Ferdinand believes the younger players haven’t let the club down and suggested some praise for Martinelli.

He told YouTube channel FIVE: “Arsenal have really benefitted from investing and believing in younger players.

I think Saka, Emile Smith Rowe, they’ve been outstanding. Willock at times has come in and done stuff, same for Maitland-Niles.

“Without these young players coming in and holding the fort, with all that’s going on, I don’t know where Arsenal would be and the fans would be in the doldrums. Martinelli, for me, is the best one.”

The Brazilian youngster cost the Gunners £6 million and he enjoyed a quality first campaign in England.

Martinelli scored 10 goals and claimed four assists last season before injury struck to rule him out of the final 12 games of the campaign.

Martinelli has been missed on occasions this season and the Gunners supporters will be happy to see him close to full fitness.

He started games against Chelsea and Brighton recently, with Arsenal winning them both.

The £90,000-a-week player can play on the left or through the middle and that versatility is perfect for Arteta.

Martinelli looks like a real star of the future and he could be like a new signing for the Gunners between now and the end of the season.
