‘The best’: Jamie Carragher says Tottenham have one of his favourite Premier League players right now

Jamie Carragher says Tottenham and England talisman Harry Kane is one of his favourite players in the Premier League.

Kane is yet to score for England at the World Cup, but Carragher has argued in the Telegraph that three assists at the tournament are proof he is in good form.

He also expressed his admiration for Kane’s reinvention as his career has gone along and also his passing ability, calling him the best distributor Gareth Southgate has at his disposal.

Carragher on Kane

He said: “For many years, Kane has been one of my favourite Premier League players, and my admiration for him has only increased because of the manner in which he has restructured his game, and effectively reinvented himself to remain world class.

“There is no English striker who can hold the ball better, win free-kicks to relieve defensive pressure or bring others into play, and I have long argued Kane is as good as any passer in the Premier League, and the best in the England squad.

“Kane’s all-round game is better than ever as he has been forced to compromise the ‘selfish’ pursuit of goals.

“He wants to be involved in the build-up because he understands he no longer has the pace or stamina to keep sprinting beyond defences.”

Carragher says elsewhere in the column that Kane does not need to score to have a good World Cup, so long as he is assisting and his teammates are scoring.

If he did get off the mark in the knockouts, like he did at Euro 2020, it could take England to new heights, with the games only getting more important from here.

Carragher argued that Kane was poor apart from one game last summer, but seems to think he is already doing better this time around and can still get better in Qatar.
